Local event to celebrate King holiday on Jan. 15
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a time to celebrate the life of the late civil-rights leader and focus on service and activism in America.
This year’s local celebration on Monday, Jan. 15, will be the 10th annual event coordinated by the Martin Luther King Jr. Committee of Santa Barbara.
Starting at 9 a.m. a group will gather in De la Guerra Plaza to hear speakers and then walk in a Unity March up State Street to the Arlington Theatre.
There will be also a celebration from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church.
The local committee’s mission is to foster positive relationships between the many diverse groups in Santa Barbara and the surrounding areas; to sponsor programs and events that exemplify King’s teachings; and to celebrate the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
